View Full Version : Steak Dinner??
Has anyone ever heard of feeding raw steak or beef to a snake? I read the weirdest thing today in an old caresheet for cornsnakes my friend showed me it was 1965 or something lol but just curious does anyone else feed their snakes beef? or was this just a substitute for the sparce supply of feeder mice "back then"? I personally would never feed my snakes beef and would not recommend it to anyone, as it obviously isn't a fully nutritious meal(no bones, guts etc.)

I've used beef with broth baby food ( as well as turkey and chicken) before when making a tube feeding formula for snakes before, but that's about as close as I have come to serving up a steak dinner :flick: I wouldn't recommend substituting beef for whole prey in a healthy snake's diet. Knowledge of keeping snakes successfully in captivity has come a loooong way from the 60's :D
lol agreed Linds. Thanks RYan J

I agree with you Lindsay. I do find it neat when I come across old information on reptiles. Seeing how far outdated it is can be a good read. I was reading a book that I bought 12 years ago and it contained a lot of iguana feeding info along with other lizard info. I think 10% of the book is accurate by todays standards

I wouldnt follow that caresheet if i was you lol. snakes need the ruffage that is provided by the prey's hair in order to pass stools :toilet:
substituting food every once in a while shouldnt hurt too much, but its best to stick with normal prey items methinks
lol, did that iguana feeding info say they eat meat?

Now, if some company wants to mince an entire cow, that might work. <snicker>
