hey my crested does the same thing usually when he wants to sleep(during the day) he goes down on the ground and hides under his paper towels or under his leaves. Mine rarely sleeps up hihg in his cage. I think its normal but not excactly sure, someone else with more knowledge with cresteds should be able to answer ur question.

It's not unusual for them to curl up on or near the ground, so I wouldn't worry if he's acting normal otherwise. They tend to head down if it's too warm, when shedding or feeling threatened. The moist substrate helps with shedding so it's natural for them to hang out at the bottom. Their natural colour and pattern (talking wild colours, not selective bred like captives) are geared towards blending in with the forest floor. Fallen leaves, branches, moss and lichen make it easy for them to disappear from sight, something they'll do if threatened.
If he's eating and active otherwise, the temperature isn't too extreme, chances are he's just doing what they do naturally.
