Who makes those plastic enclosures?

i remember hearing about them but who makes them and is there a website? i want to check them out before i start construction.

You need to be a little more specific so we can help you. There are several manufacturers of plastic caging in the US, with the numbers growing as the trend has begun. A few of them off the top of my head are:

Building plastic caging is quite difficult. Since nobody up in Canada produces caging (and I am not about to pay $750 for a cage becasue that's what i costs by the time it gets up here), I have lookjed into it and done all the research. I decided to go with HDPE but realized there was no way I could do it myself, as you need to thermoform, etc. There are all sorts of special forming and welding machines involved in building plastic cages, which is why they can be so costly. I was luck enough to find a company that woudl build them for me :)

thank you. it was boaphile that i heard about i do remember now. I will check out the others as well though because hey its good to shop around. i probably will end up building my enclosures out of hollow core doors anyway but i have to price and consider where I am now and where I will be in 5 years. thanks again.

i would love to to buy your caging.it looks great and would be perfect for the spacing I have but I work at Eckerds for only $5.55 an hour. and i can get building materials for next to nothing from a relative. If your still cranking em out in about 2 years I'll definitely be making a purchase as in a few years im looking into a burmese or rock or retic. gotta love the giants. see ya. thanks.

It wasn't the shipping that deters me from buying caging from the US, it's the exchange rate and duty. I try to avoid any cross-border purchases when possible, for instance my order of 15' of heat tape, cord and connectors came to $118 by the time it got to me, and I ordered a shirt a while back and the duty cost me more than it did!!! :eek: Shipping is never the problem, its the sh#tty Canadian dollar and the theifs at the border :(

I also just got a couple of helix controls from the states..they said 20 dollars to ship,but by the time it got to my door it was 140 dollars,And that was just on two dinky little helix controls..i cant even imagine a 4' cage.

Do you mean to say that the shipping, taxes, and duties on two thermostats went up to US$140?

I am about to order a DBS-1000 from Helix, and I was quoted US$22 shipping.

yes..Edwin..Thats exactly what it cost me,I couldn't believe it when it showed up at my door..now i needed the controls so i didn't have much choice.
They quoted me the same price as well,but that olny covers to the border,then it has to be passed off to another canadian company,so you are charged a whole new set of fees..pluss the brokerage fee as well.

Ouch, now I am REALLY glad I have not placed my order yet. There is no way I could afford to pay that much on top of the price of the thermostat.

Just got to home depot and get a thermostat. Saves all the ****ty cross border stuff. I bought some dog agility equipment off e-bay for 100$, shipping included, and by the time I got it and converted the currenct, it was closer to 500. Then my dog goes and gets a heart murmur and isn't allowed to do any sort of excercise. There goes 500 bucks on the equipment!

best way to do it is if you have some one to receive it and then reship it for you. no brokerage fee's on "gifts"

yea I used to do a lot of back and forth shipping of mtbike parts to/from canada. we would always just sign everything off as "gifts" cut down on costs quite a bit...then again im at a bit of an advantage being on this side of the border :p
