View Full Version : few questions regarding silkworms and panthers
First off...is a weeping mulberry ok to feed silkworms (it is "fruiting") ...it it the same as a white/red/black mulberry?
Also my female panther has some puffyness in the neck area (not too much) is this normal?

all mulberry trees are ok as far as i know
as for the puffieness this could be edema most commonly caused by over suplementation, if it is edema id take her off all suplements for the next few weeks, and you might have to start suplementing her less then you normally do, i only dusted my female panther (adult) once a month sometimes less, giving her alittle more when i thought she was prego. and i do the same with most of my other chams as well, I rely on my gutload to do most of the work.
Thanks...it was actually after egg-laying that I noticed it.
With regards to the mulberry I heard that the nonfruiting are not really consumed due to the thickness and hairiness of the leaves???

I have used any type of mulberry leaves that I can find and the silkworms ate them all. They were leaves from fruiting, non-fruiting mulberries, ornamental weeping mulberry and anything else in between. There was no difference in how much or fast they were eaten and no difference in the size of the worms. Even the chams and geckos didn't seem to find any taste difference, they'd eat them all.
