Read the Leopard Gecko CARESHEET & FAQ Check here first (http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50109) post at the beginning of this forum. It lists the substrates that are safe and which ones aren't.

so does i matter if the tile is slippery? I jsut dont want him to be uncomfertable. Like does it have to be rough?

slippery would work, but they might slip and smack their head when going for a cricket or a mealie.

Right now I'm using the repti-carpet, and I'm happier with that than any of the "loose" substrates, but plan on changing to tile/slate when I upgrade the enclosure (soon, hopefully!). I think the carpet is probably not as easy to clean as tile/slate, and if crix hatch out (I don't know if the adults are laying eggs in the humid hides - moss - or the carpet), I'm finding the pinheads are really hard to get rid of or keep under control.

If you can go to a tile store, or a large home-improvement type store, you'll probably be able to find some tiles that are fairly textured. I have tiles in my laundry room that are regular floor tiles, but they do have some texture, they're not really slick.

I'm so glad you're asking questions and setting up good housing for your gecko. You're smarter than I was....I was in my middle-40's when I got my first geckos, and ended up losing one from sand-impaction....I just went with the (chain) petstore's recommendation, instead of doing my own research... :( :dumb: :o
