I'd say a corn snake is your best bet. They're well priced, well tempered, & easy to care for. Plus, they come in just about any color you could want. There are tons of caresheets online, as well as The Corn Snake Manual (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1882770544/qid=1119303627/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-9588364-9225521?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), which I hear is a great book for corn snake owners. Good luck w/ whatever snake you choose to get.

corns all the way they r the one of the best snakes to get
Great starters: Cornsnakes, milksnakes (especially hondurans), garters, spotted pythons, ball pythons. There are others. You really cant beat a corn though for ease of care.

I would highly recommend Corns/Kings and Milks. All very good snakes for the beginner and old pro alike.
Good luck :D

Well I agree a cornsnake would be a good choice , they are well priced and there are numerous morphs. As adults they are a nice size , easy to care for and easy to handle . Rat snakes , milks ,kings , spotted pythons and ball pythons all would be good to . They are all easy to care for and stay at a nice size . Do your research and maybe try to meet a few different snakes to see what kind you like .Good luck
ok well i got my snake today, a ball python. and now that i read this im happy with what i got, i was waiting for some corns to come in but that could be a while so i went with what i got and im really liking the ball.

good choice going with the ball. i for one prefer boas and pythons to a colubrid anyday. you may have some trouble getting it to eat as i know they can be picky eaters but otherwise they are great snakes:)
