My aunt gave me an older Dell because she got a new one. Well it was prompting for a W98 disk which I didnt have. So I got my WXP disk...inserted it and started to install it. It was going great until it was copying files and a few of them had errors.

Now it boots up like it has WXP....then goes to a blue screen that says:

STOP:c0000211 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntd77.d77

Now I have pushed so many buttons from this screen and nothing happens...so theres no way I could get to a screen to try and reinstall it.

My question is...should I just go buy a new Hard Drive OR should I clear this one and try again. The only thing is IDK how. So if anyone knows how to wipe a hard drive PLEASE I'd appreciate the help so much!

Thanks,

Don

I'm no computer person, but I mentioned it to my boyfriend who is. He said that the problem is most likely in either the Windows XP disc itself, or the CD-rom drive is having trouble reading it. He also said that there are a number of things that might be wrong, but those are the first you should check. The harddrive could be bad, but it isn't likely to be the problem. You should probably have someone look at it to find out what's wrong. Good luck w/ it.

Thanks.

My friend had me change my main drive to the CD-ROM drive. It worked..I'm reinstalling it right now. If it doesnt work then I know its my disk and I'll just have to buy another.

Thanks!

UPDATE: The site that Jeff led me to made alot of sense so I figured that it wasnt the disk, its the computer. I think its just not good enough to support Windows XP. So I erased the files, put in my Windows 98 disk and things seem to be working.

Thanks again!
