View Full Version : mexican milks?
I havent seen anyone offering mexican milksnakes lately, are they not popular or something? Does anyone breed them?
Just wondering because the male I adopted is great and I am rather surprised they arn't as popular as the sinolean or other milk snakes. is it because they don't grow as big?

I used to breed them & the fellow I sold them too has eggs incubating. They are a finicky species & the young can be hard to get going food wise, but are a very attractive snake. Their small size should be a bonus as most folks are always pressed for space & one of these lil ones takes up a lot less than a Hondo lets say. I found they didn't seem to be in high demand. Everyone wants a Corn & the Hondos seem to be very popular in reguards to the milks. I sold my Sinaloans a few years back due to lack of interest as well (that & lack of Python space LOL). Most Milks seem to be more of a coniseiour (sp? lol) type snake & hondos seem most popular. Mark

I'd also be interested to know if anyone is working with them as well. I love my mexican milk and wouldn't mind a few more (girls). LOL, to bad mine is a male as well, Topaz! We could have worked something out.

lol, my thoughts exactly Jen. Mine is quite docile and in the short time I have had him, a good eater. Oh well, maybe someday ;)

Try Brian at High Water Herps - near Ottawa I believe - should be able to get him with a google search - we sent our adult male out to him last year and I believe he had plans to breed in the future. He has a great collection of various milksnake species. Agree that Mexican milks are great snakes - very easy to live with as adults but we never did get into breeding them because of the difficulty of starting babies and the lack of available, unrelated mates around,

thanks for the tip! I found his site at www.highwaterherps.ca and emailed him, he is breeding his mexicans next spring :)

It's a good thing i got that male from you Mary, My 1.1 turned out to be 0.2
The male is doing great, he went a good 4 months without eating after he got here but has settled in and is now doing fine.
I wasn't overly upset that i had 2 females rather than 2 males. Both females will breed this coming spring so there will be lots of babies to go round.

Hey Brian,
Nice when a sexing error is to your advantage!! That hardly ever happens. Glad to hear he has settled in. I am not suprised he didn't feed for a long time - he had eaten really well that year and was a bit pudgy when I sent him - but they sure don't eat like a hondo - seem quite a bit more sensitive to change. One of the prettiest small milks though - love the color intensity on them.
Best of luck with the breedings next season - hope you get some with the orange bands that he has.
The little monster hondo we got from you is doing fine - absolutely crazy snake!! - love her color!

I saw the picture of the trio on the site, are the orange bands on the male a different colour morph? Havent heard much about different colours relating to the mexicans at all.
Better 0.2 than 2.0 Brian :D
