Hi all,
I have a female lavender albino cal king, that for lack of a better term, seems to have a 'rash'. I guess a picture is worth a thousand words, so...
http://www.pbase.com/killerkitten/image/45019050/original.jpg

The picture is somewhat washed out, as her body is quite purple, and the spots are a dark pink to red color. It is only on small areas, and only in spots on the back half of her body (nothing near the head). The scales feel fine, and she has shed out a couple times with no noticable change. I don't think it's a burn, since the scales are still smooth and the temps in the rack are kept no higher than 85 degrees. Anyone know what this might be? I don't want to take her to the vet if it's not needed.

Thanks!

~Leanne

Are the pics pretty much the extent of it? Like nothing on the belly scales? Doesn't really look like scale rot or blister type action. Any sensitivity in the area that you can notice? Any smell? Sometimes fungal type issues have a smell to them. How humid is she kept? Possible substrate issue? I really don't know but it doesn't appear to be real serious at this point? I couldn't find much in the books I had handy except that most skin ailments are caused as a result of high humidity & contact with bateria. If husbandry is correct & not too wet you shouldn't be having any issues. Sorry I can't be of more help but I'd say keep monitoring it & maybe someone who knows more about skin ailments can shed some insight. Try posting on Reptiles Canada also for help, maybe run a google on snake skin ailments or baterial or fungal infections? Mark
P.S. has she been soaking lots or anything new such as a different substrate or anything?

Thanks for taking the time to reply Mark :) No sensitivity, and no smell that i can tell. She is kept pretty dry (paper towel substrate), but she would sometimes either drag a paper towel into her water bowl, or just climb in and spill it all. Sometimes I wouldn't notice until the next day, so it would get pretty good and humid and wet in there. It was a 'poo soup' a couple times as well. :P Since the 'rash' showed up (couple months ago), I gave her a larger bowl and only put a little water in it so she can't spill it. She has shed once since I put the new bowl in. I guess I forgot to mention all this before O.O, and I don't doubt this could be what caused it. If it's bacterial or fungal, is it possible for it to go away by itself, or do i need to get some medication? Thanks!

At this point I would wait it out a bit. Seems very minor whatever it is but keep a close eye on her & husbandry conditions. I hate it when they spill everything & make "soup" DOH! Its weird that nothing on her belly as thats where these type things usually show up. I have used Bactine to clean minor wounds etc. before as it is pretty safe & easily obtained. I really don't know what it is for sure but definitely keep an eye on it & if it worsens at all I'd seek a Vet. Mark
