ok i was thinking about getting a jampea dwarf so that i would have a snake that would help prepare me for the giants. i thought i would get a female and that she would get 10-12 feet. now i found an add on kingsnake.com that says "true jampea dwarfs" and then in the add it says "tons of references to prove that these guys stay 5-7 feet max". so whos is right? how long do these snakes get?
also does anyone have any other suggestions for snakes somewhere in between like 6 ft(i have a male bci) and like 15+ ft? i was thinking maybe a yellow anaconda?
thanks for any info:)
Super dwarf retics get 5-7ft. max. Jampeas can get 15ft.

im also thinking about a male burm. the jampea retic would be a lot harder to find and a lot more expensive.and most of the care sheets and information ive read about burms say that the males will be 10-12 ft and possibly 14. i realize the burm will obviously be heavier and have a larger girth than the jampea retic but i could get a nice normal baby at my local reptile show and i would probably have to get the jampea retic shipped from somewhere, which i would like to avoid. i would like to hear opinions on this.
also can you give me a comparison of the weight and girth of an adult FEMALE jampea and an adult MALE burm.(i would like to know just how much bigger overall the burm is going to get)
Jampea retics aren't hard to find. Shipping is piece of cake, especially if you're shipping within the same country. Over night, over and done, just go with a good, reputable breeder.
A male burm will be quite thicker than a female jamp. Keep in mind, just because they can get 15ft., doesn't mean that they will get 15ft. . I would say that the average for a female jamp is between 11-15ft. . If you're concerned about size, go with a super dwarf retic. Very small.
whenever i see yellow anaconda i have to jump in. they are one of my favorite snakes ever. males average 6-8 feet but females average 10-12. both can reach larger sizes than this. they do have a nasty nature but so do ALOT of reptiles and it doesnt mean you wont find a docile one. i have a very sweet 7 foot male, hes calm and sometimes easy to handle (they are EXTREMLY strong) you will be able to see them alot too, they love to sit in their water and they dont need a very large containor of water and i keep the heat lamp on that side of the cage so he can bask and soak which consists of most of his time and very little time hiding.
iv always wanted a jampea retic and burms are beautiful but sence iv never had experience with either species i dont want to throw my opinions on you about them except maybe you would want to get some thing semi large (yellow conda or something else in the 6-10 foot range) before going to snakes geting 15 feet or longer and FAT if you were to go with a burm. but its really up to you. hope whatever you chose works out and if you want any more yellow info you can pm me (sorry im obsessed with them!)

well when i said a jampea retic would be hard to find i meant that i wouldnt be able to get one at my local reptile show like i would a burm. i have a male boa now(3'7") and im going to guess that he'll get about 6 ft. i want something bigger than him but smaller than like 15 ft. but if i get a male burm or a female jampea retic im not going to power feed them or anything so i dont think that theyll grow to be 15 ft. i also know that burms are usually pretty calm and laid back but im not sure about the jampea retic. and another reason i would like to buy it local is because i can handle the snake and get a calm one rather than getting a snake shipped to me that could be nice or could be a monster.
Lrptls: i was considering a yellow conda but i like to handle my snakes often and i think it would be a pain to take it out all the time and have it be soaking wet. i do like them but i would rather have something that will stay dry.
thanks for the info any more is appreciated:)
aw but they really arnt that wet even well pulled right out of the water, every time i take mine out i set him down on the floor first and let him chill for a few seconds, then i slowly aproach him and genlty handle him, water really does not stick to them, you wont even get your clothes wet or any thing.

well another thing is that this may be the ONLY snake i get until after high school and (im going into ninth grade next year) its not going to be easy getting this one. so what im saying is i want to make a good choice. i havent thrown the yellow anaconda out of the picture or anything but i want to make sure that whatever i get is something i really love. another thing is my dad doesnt want the snake to be aggressive. i told him anything can be aggressive when it is young but if i handle it often it should grow out of it. and as far as aggression goes i think the burm would win out of these three unless i find an exception to the rule. i think im going to read more about each species and then ill go to the show and check out the burms and yellow anacondas and see how i much i like each of them:)

In my opinion.....if you get a baby your fine. Whether it be a burm, retic, or arock. Get them as hatchlings and you can basically just adjust to their size as they grow (all this being said assuming you havet he means to feed//house the animal.)
