how long to calm down?

Hello all,

I just received a 10 month old male albino burmese from bob clark today. I opened the box and before i untied the sack the snake started hissing. I put him on the floor and took him out cautiously. He sat there and tracked my every move and occasionally struck at me. I'm sure the ride on the UPS truck was stressful for him, but I'm wondering how long it usually takes a burm to calm down after shipping. Any pointers for acclimating him to his new home? Thanks, chris

My burm was like that when i brought him home from the pet store I would just give him a week or too and he should calm down, mine did after a little handling

I just bought 3 baby burmeses' and one of them was a little snappy to start off, and just by handling her more and more, she has calmed down in a big way !

What on earth are you talking about?

Burms are snappy when they're young. Keep them well fed, and with some gentle handling, and they calm down in no time.

thanks for the info, i was also wondering what a bottle of nix had to do with my post. i think the burm is going to be fine. i put him in a high traffic area so he can get used to movement in his environment. so far all he does is watch me when i approach the cage, no striking at the glass. i'm going to give him a while before i attempt to get him out though. i'll post pics when i do.....chris

The fact that it is a new snake and a bit upset you can not rule out that it could have mites. Not from Bob Clark but it could have come from somthing else.

A bottle of Nix and limited handling as well as being well fed. when there is no more Nix to use it is safe to rule out the possibility of mites and the snake has had ample amounts of time to get acclimated to the new enclosure.

And you asked "About how long does it take for a Burm to acclimate to a new enclosure." And he said "A bottle of Nix."

Just thought I would clear it up.
