Hello,

I enjoy watching my turtles bask while i work on whatever needs to be done around the house.
I've always noticed them swivel their bodies when out of the water sunning.

What does this do exactly? Loosen itchy shedding skin perhaps?
I used to have a RES that would wiggle his rear end so my nails would scratch against his shell.
It was too funny to watch but i cant help but wonder if they are having trouble shedding or not.

Do your turtles do this as well? They tend to itch their heads against the edge of thier shells from time to time as well.

Thank you for any imput! :)

I know this reply is "late", but my Reeves turtle does this also. Usually towards the evening, before the lights go out, or shortly after. It's almost like dancing. I can see no reason for it, like shedding skin etc. It just seems to be a comfort thing. "Maybe" it is some instinct, in which the turtles come out of the water to land, and settle into grass or mud etc.

that makes the most sense ^^ i think i might find out where the wild turtles bask at our lake and see what they do during the day.. lol

I love the superman pose they do as well when sunning.. too feet out front and too streached out the back lol :D
