BLEH! Ok maybe its the heightened olfactory sense, but everytime I open the lid of that tupperware, even if i JUST cleaned it, it smells AWFUL in there........ and we're talkin makes-me-shudder, waves of nausea awful!
Anyone got fun tips for what I can soak that in that isnt to harsh a chemical that will get that stench out. Can I use a light soak of bleach and oxyclean as long as I rinse good.
I dont ever remember the tank smelling this bad, but I guess it had more ventilation, too. Ive been cleaning out the enclosure with dishsoap and water, but apparently thats not getting the job done. I just dont want to use something that might hurt him.
Thanks-
Artemis
I use bleach water to clean all my tuppers...I just mix a capful of bleach into my spray bottle and soak the container down then I rinse with super hot water...this keeps the smells minimal and sanitizes it for the snakes sake...cheers

I've found that after cleaning with very hot water, spraying the tubs down with Nolvasan and letting them soak for a while will reduce the odor. I have a hard time with using bleach, as that smell tends to make me queasy.
If nothing works, at least tubs are cheap. I wouldn't feel too bad about just throwing one away and getting a fresh new one.
What kind of conditions are the rubbermaids in? I've never had problems with any of my rubbermaids smelling with the exception of Rainbow Boas and anytime a snake took a big poop :toilet: The Rainbows stunk because they were in wet conditions, and the smells from the substrate, etc. would just intensify under the restricted airflow. The only cleaning method I use routinely for cleaning rubbermaids (and any of my other non-glass enclosures) are a spritz down with peroxide and wipe dry.
Never had a problem with a perminent smell from a rubber maid. Only way I can see it is if you have a mold growing in it that you can see or wash out...
I probably wasn't clear on that part either... like Jon, I've also never had any of my rubbermaids have a permanent odour... even in rubbermaids that have grown mold
