Heat tape / Heating pads inside wood cage..

Has anyone ever used this method???? Can i put some heat tape or a human heating pad taped down inside of the wooded enclosure like on the floor????

hi jeff i would try to figure a way to put it outside the cage or place it in cage but under some plexyglass or something plus i would be nervous of a short or water spillage on a personal heat pad plus they can get very hot i heat the water in my caiman tank with one thats like 20 gallons of water and i can keep the temps at 85 so that pad is pumping some tremedous heat, but like i said if ya can put it on the outside in any way it would be the better way to go.

Totally fine inside the cage on the lowest setting. How else are the females supposed to lye upside-down under them? Works for me. Even my Brazilians are like that, and they hate the heat!

This topic will ALWAYS be a debatable one... but I wouldnt want to take a risk using human heat pads. I know ALOT of people have had much success with them for many years now, but the fact still remains that they werent designed to be left on 24/7, and yes a few people have had there collections go up in smoke as a consequence. I don't mind spending the extra few dollars to decrease the risk of fire, even if its just a small degree :greenflam

Hey Jeff, I was going to check out seedling heat pads. They are designed to sit under seedling flats to warm up the dirt.
They would have to be waterproof, they would have to be on for extended periods of time, and they heat the diry to about 90 deg F.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Okay .. that was pretty much a bust.

The seedling pads would work .. but only if you get the unregulated ones and a thermostat. The unregulated ones are (of course) the expensive ones!! About $70.:mad:

The cheap ones are regulated to about 72 deg.

And the search continues.

IMO... Human heat pads are not very trustworthy like Linds implies. The only case that I would use them is if they were wired up to a rheostat. I have used them with Helix Controls before with no problems.

I would suggest using Flex Watt whenever you’re in need of heat pads. Their probably the cheapest thing around and are safe to use. Shipping from Helix is cheap when you use Mail Post. Let me know if you need some. I have an order coming in next week.
