Harvesting Mealworms ?

I keep my mealworms in bins ( breeding colonies ) with a mixture of grains, wood shavings, etc.

As my gecko's increase in numbers, I'm finding it a very time consumming process to get the mealworms out. As I have to have pick them out of bins filled with substrate.

Is there a quicker way to catch the wormies? Any tricks?

do you ever give them fruits? i ususally feed mine a chunk of apple or potato. they consume it quickly but while its in there most of them are on it eating away. usually i pick it up and shake it off so the mealies fall in the bowl i will then put into whosever cage im feeding them to. but most of the time i have no problem picking them out, doesnt seem to take much time out of my day for me.

I think my problem is there's alot of substrate in there. So although some are on top, I still have to weed through to get the rest. I need roughly 500 at a time.

I will try the apple.

I found this method out when I had grain mites and couldn't keep anymore. I let the mealies eat their substrate down so they were just living in the dust... you could take a strainer and scoop and sift :D To keep them nourished, I would just sprinkle a small amount of grain in (enough to be eaten by the next day) and give them plenty of veggies, etc.
