View Full Version : escaped!!!!
How far in a day would a escaped 20" corn snake travel? Sully got out at some point last night and I ripped my entire room apart trying to find him but no luck. I am quite worried because my house is not a safe place for a loose snake. I have a female degu that had babies three days and I am worried that if he gets in with them she will kill him. the degu cages are about 4' wide and are from floor to ceiling with a plastic wading pool at the bottom. the outsides are mesh big enough for him to get through, and they have many climbing branches and ledges in the cage. that particular mom(cayenne) is HUGE like the size of a squirrel, and really agressive, I had to seperate her from her mate cause she tried to kill him. there are also many other potential snake killers in my house, a loose rabbit, three cats, 2 ferrets, 2 huge dogs and of course my wussy boyfriend who would scream and throw like books or something from the safety of the counter.
What are the chances that he actually left the room he escaped, it is a fairly large and horribly cluttered bedroom with clothes and books and about a million snake hiding spots in it (none of which I found)
the degus are in the next room over, but everyone is pretty much loose most of the time everywhere!!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about catching him???
Thanks for listening to my really long rant!!!!

Heres a few hints. Firstly, lost snakes tend to stay in the room they where lost in. Also, put flour in all the door ways, this way you can see where the snake is heading, and keep track of it. If you can find the room (can do this if even if you can't find it) that the snake is, wait untill night when your snake is active, and put a mouse by the side of the room(must be at a side of the room), then watch adnd keep watching. Good luck finding it!!

Sorry to hear about your situation. We had both of our cornsnakes get out but it was in August and they simply hibernated and came out in the spring when they were hungery again. I had almost lost hope in ever seeing them because I too have a zoo or animal choices rabbits and cats included. However, they both came back safe and sound and no one else in the house tried to tackle them. (I don't have any person who would do anything either though lol...just me and my children and they love all the animals...bugs set us off at times but not animals :-)
I doubt this helped you but perhaps it'll give you some hope.
Good Luck in finding your baby.

I had a young corn escape as well a few months ago. There were 4 cats, 2 dogs, ferrets, kids, ect running around the house at all times. just rescently the snake showed up in the family room, a few rooms from my room in perfect health.
just another story for hope

Look under and behind things, and in naturally warm places for the snake.
Put the Degus somewhere snakes cant get them. Tape em shut in a cabinet, or lock them in a room and barr the crack in the door. Ofcourse. Id go with somewhere you are SURE the snake isnt, like maybe a bathroom.
Good luck!

I'd try locking the degus up somewhere, however, that would be totally unacceptable in my degus eyes and they would never ever forgive me( not to mention the noise they would make, they are so bloody loud as it is) I have a towel stuffed under the door to the room they are in.
my boyfriend has been so brave during this whole episode,
as horrible as losing sully has been it has been quite amusing watching Mr.wimp tip toe around the house, afraid to lift or move anything cause the snake might get him!!!! I'm so mean I laugh at him all the time, he hates the snakes so much but to eh, I love my boys and frankly I've known Oz(9yr old amel corn) and Ice(6yr old albino burmese python) longer than him. I told him when he met me: love me, love my snakes/ other pets
well we move in a couple weeks and i'll hopefully find him while I'm packing, if not, a friend of mine is renting my house so he may get a surprise visitor one day.
thanks for everyones advice and words of encouragement!!!

I had a little corn escape a few weeks ago i think the best ideas are to: Put flour by doors, thin plastic bags in warm areas if ur a light sleeper beacuse when they move it russles, thats how i caught mine. Use bait too... He'll soon be hungry. Um warm dark places, in the end he was hiding in the deep abyss of under my bed. GOOD LUCK!
So I just thought that I would let everyone know that I found Sully, well more like he found me!!!! this morning at around 5:00am I was sound asleep when suddenly something very cold touched my leg. I literally shot out of bed so fast that I almost hit the ceiling. My boyfriend woke up when I screamed and well I shouted out some things that I can't type here. The wimp then ran out of the room before I looked to see what it was(he's so much help!!!). I flipped back the covers and there was Sully, staring at me, looking a little freaked out.
I am so glad that he found me, what a relief!!!
