My cousin has found a snake and we were wondering what it it. It has a black bady with red rings(skinny) it is a little longer than a foot and has a slender body. He found it in the water.

A ringneck like this one (http://www.wildherps.com/images/herps/standard/022741_ringneck.jpg)? Normally (if not always) they only have one ring and they aren't generally regarded as swimmers.

If you live in the S.E. USA, I wonder if it was an Eastern Mud Snake (http://www.fototime.com/%7BBB87A0A8-013F-4E7F-9E75-DB4174969123%7D/picture.JPG).
