I'm helping out with a research project this summer on the response (phenotypic plasticity) of frog eggs to predators (leech and dragonfly larvae). Under the dissecting scope you could actually see the individual blood cells circulation through the tadpoles gills. Anyway because I'll essentially be outside all summer I'll post more pics soon.

The toads were breeding like crazy for the past couple of days.
The number of eggs in a typical brood that we found was 8000-10000. Now that's reproduction! More pics on the way soon, stay tuned.

Hey,

Nice pictures,

Do you happen to have any good pictures of tadpoles? or could you refer me to a book or key for identification. It would help me out with some of the research im doing this summer.

I'm sorry but I don't have any really good pictures of tadpoles that can be used for identification. There is an online key to the Anuran Tadpoles of the United States and Canada at this website
http://www.cnah.org/ch/chis/1998/2/

I hope this helps.

Great bunch of photos.

I like the look of that Nerodia. You could probably pass it off as N. clarkii compressicauda.

Here are some of the pics I took this weekend while on the Ganaraska Trail.

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8411/emydoideablandingiijuly220051k.jpg

This is the best picture I could take of this blandings turtle, but still wonderful to see one in the wild!

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/1466/ganaraskatrailjuly220054bb.jpg

This beaver dam held the water up at least 10 feet or more.....gotta love those beavers.

http://img273.imageshack.us/img273/9744/moosealcesalcestracksjuly22005.jpg

Found tons of fresh moose tracks, my hand is in the picture for scale not just because I like to feel the mud.....

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/1254/eumecesfasciatusjuly220054bn.jpg

The wilderness section of the Ganaraska trail is skink heaven! I only took pictures of one of them because I don't like stress out every skink I see :)

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/2253/blackbearursusamericanusjuly22.jpg

We also found some fresh (relatively) bear tracks as well.

And now for some pics from the Bobcaygeon area.....

I apologize in advance for this photo, I didn't have time to censor my nipples.

A nice little blue spotted salamander found at the oliver pond.

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/7725/pseudacriscruciferjune2720052u.jpg

Spring Peepers were also abundant around the same pond.

I just had to throw in another Grey Treefrog picture!

Anyway I'll keep trying to post as many pics as I can over the next two months.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for all the nice compliments. I'm by no means an expert but I really enjoy taking photos. If anyone else has any photos they'd like to share I'd love to see them.
