Yes it has been done with healthy BDs growing fine. The hard part is varying their diet enough to keep them eating. I would not recomend it for a novice keeper raising a baby. As peterm15 pointed out, no room for error.

I think the best thing is to just keep feeding it a veg/insect mix. Do it if you really want but as soon as you have problems i think you should start feeding insects, remember they are omnivorous but more carnivorous. They have been built by evolution, I personally don't agree with messing with that but thats my individual choice. I still dont disagree with experimenting as long as you dont create discomfort for the animal.
i not planning on messing around i was just curious to the sanitary benefits to feeding them this way, i am sure they are happier and livelier to be chasing their prey, i was also thinking in terms as to the nutrition value may be better than bugs but as always the guildlines the manufactures use are not scrutinized, so who knows if the values are as stated, if they were i would use repcal pellets, a good calcium suppliment and herpvite, just interested in peoples thoughts

if your BDs diet consistes of repcal pellets, that has all the calcium and vitimans built in. Daniel Wentz DVM has successfully raised BDs on pellets alone. www.lizardland.com
