View Full Version : my very first bite
well, i finally got my first snake bite. after a year of owning snakes, my BCI finally bit me! i know a lot of you are prolly thinking im crazy for being excited about this. but to me it finally makes me a true snake owner. its like the guy at "the reptile store" in hamilton ont, said to me when i got my very first snake" there are two rules to owning snakes: 1) you will get bit, you aren't a true snake keeper untill you do, and 2) owning snakes is addictive, one you have one, you must get two. once you have two you must get three and once you have three....ect"
i am sooo proud to finally recieve my first snake bite :) it happened after she was wrapped aroung my arm, i thought she had a very good grip but she slipped off a lil (honest mistake on both our parts) and hit her head, not to hard, but hard enough, off of the leg of the chair i was sitting in. i could tell right away that shwe was pi$$ed off...so i attempted to put her away. it was during that attempt she sturck, damn it was so fast i didn't know what hit me. well anyways here is a pic or two of the bite\

Congrats also...I've heard the same thing. Call me a newbie, but I have yet to be initiated that way. I did have one question though, cuz i've heard several things. When the snake bites, it can let go, or at least it can according to two friends. A third though, said that you have to manually help it let go. I guess I'd like to know before it happens, as walking around with a snake stuck to my hand, arm, or whatever would probably be awkward, as well as embarassing.
Cheers,

she tagged and released, with no attempt to hold on whatsoever. before i even knew i had been bit, she was off my finger.

Depends on the snake, and its intentions. Most snakes will bite from a defensive posture, so that intent of the bite, is bite only...to warn off a predator (in this case..the keeper). Handle a mouse..or rat before you put your hands into the cage...and you'll receive a different response..feeding response..there for the snake will most likely hold on, or constrict your hand. In this case...just relax, stay still, yanking the snake can only do more harm than good, will most likely let go eventually, once it realizes it cannot eat you (Varied snake to snake, and size of snake of coarse).
Just my opinion..
By the way, congrats on the first snake bite..cant recall mine exactly.
