Quick question....if i was to buy one snake (as opposed to a pair), say a hognose...would there be any reason to choose one sex over the other?
Thanks...Dave

With Western Hognose, the females will get much bigger than the males, so size of caging and feeding requirements will be larger. My little male would be happy in a 10 gallon tank (or a sweater box tub), but his mate would need a 20 gallon (or a blanket box tub). The male I have is around 24 inches and the female is about 34-36 inches. Both are adults.

In the future if you ever decide to part with your snake or decide to breed, it would be better to get a female. An older female is worth more than a male & it is easier to buy a young male to grow up to breed to an already older female than the other way round. Mark

Thanks for the advice Lora & Mark, I would like to get a pair but should i decide to breed them, i would want an unrelated pair...right?. Anyway i told the breeder that i might want a pair if unrelated. Was told that all have been line bred so somewhat related. Was asked which sex i would want if i only wanted one. Wasn't 100% sure, but good to go now...Thanks , Dave
