fishing trip

i was out fish today .i know i should have been herping but it was cool today .i was fish near a boat ramp .a man and his son pull up in there boat and ask if i was doing any good .i said not really.so i ask them if they had any luck.they said that they kill 3 cottonmouth ,2 watersnake and a few turtles.my blood started to boil.but i remanded my cool .until they talked about killing snakes and turtles .i thought they a father and son out enjoying a day on the river but after what they had said they out on the river drinking and shoting snake and turtle ,and god knows what else.that he was teaching his son to kill reptiles for just fun (must be redneck) .how do we stop this ?what should i have said to them .how would they feel if some snake came by thier house and shot them .i hunt deer but i eat what i kill .but to do it to enjoy watching a reptile die .how do you feel about all of this?

Ida told him a story about me and my bro running around shooting farm animals, didnt mater what, but we especially like to get dogs and cats..........insert grotesque dipiction of slaughter here..............and how we then just run around shootin up whatever.

Watch his face. If he gets this OMG look on his face tell him you didnt enjoy his story either, and that you would greatly appreciate it if he finished the day with his bloodline. People like him are why people like us (hunters, fishers and herp people) have a hard time finding residence, buying firearms, and the general movement of either sport. I am a hunter and a fisher, I eat what game I harvest, and I only shoot to kill what I intend to harvest, When I fish it is usually CAR and if we do keep it is usually at a farm pond or something, but all kills are eaten, and no life wasted.

There is no stopping that mentality. they are the ones who shoot brids off the electric lines.About all you could do is check with you local game warden to see if its legal to shoot from a boat most states have laws that will not allow you to hunt from a boat.

I dont understand how anyone could be proud by killing a small snake like the ones In your story, thats like bragging about beating up a baby...
