How good is wood at conducting heat?

I live in england and was wondering whether i could get the temp on my basking spot to 35 degrees c (95 f) with just the use of a heat mat? Or would i need to use a spot lamp to get this temp on my basking spot? The air temp is usually +- 19c in my room?

I'm asking in preparation for designing of my viv before i make it.

thanks

You would need a spot lamp, wood conducts heat but very poorly so heat mats won't do it alone.

You could always cut a square out of the bottom, router a lip around the edge of it, and place a plate of glass on it. Then you can put the heat pad on that!? Just an idea.

Thats actually a really good idea! Cheers clint.

Heat pads have no problems heating through wood, and wood is excellent at insulating. I wouldn't bother replacing it with glass, you should have no problems heating the basking spot to 95 degrees. 19 c however is very cool, and heat pads really do not boost the ambient temps that much.
