Since Iguanas have a good set of nails on them, and need a decent amount of humidity, I would recommend using an epoxy coating. It comes in variety of prices and types, so you will have to look around. When cured it is 100% safe and is used on pharmaceutical facilities, pools, gator tanks, etc. I find it super easy to work with, and you don't need to use nearly as much as you do with urethanes, etc. plus it is 100% waterproof, hard as nails, and permanent. The kind I use is touch-dry after 5 hours, dry after 24, can hold water after 72, and is fully cured in 5 days. The brand you use will have the specifics listed :)

Not to put the epoxy down, I know its a good product. But if your freind wants colour a good water based latex outdoor paint is good. It is also water proof and dry after 24 hours. I use it on my chameleon cage, and after a year of heavy daily misting there are no problemes.
But It prob wont protect against the scratching like the epoxy will.
