View Full Version : Locality or generic type ?
Hey guys,
When planning for your next GTP, do you look for locality or any generic type?
I might be wrong but been noticing a few breeder site and they seem to only work with generic!

Do you mean generic or genetic? Generic would be the locality types and genetic would be designer. In my situation I'm planning on another locality type, an Aru. I'm looking to start my own "line" of designers.

Actually, generic would mean designer......although not really generic if you go by beauty. Locality animals are just that.......locality. Marc, the reason you see most breeders working with generics, is because most locale tags are BS. They are usually named after a main port, and sometimes aren't even collected in the same general area of the locale tag. Aru, Biak, and Merauke are some of the easy to spot locales. All others are questionable.

hmm imo generic is like supermarket brand compared to manufacturer brand. and genetic is where it came from. but just my opinion.

Adam, I completely understand where you are coming from, but in the herp world, generic means non-locale. I wouldn't use the term to define genetic designers, but pure locale animals are not generics by any means. Talk to some grayband people.......they get even more bent out of shape about it. lol.

I think Sorongs are very easy to identify, and they are my personal favorite. I plan on working with designer morphs, but Sorongs are the locale I want to focus on.

I too think Sarongs are easy to identify, but to some, they are confused with those such as, Jayapura, Arafak, and other highland animals. Even babies can be mis-labled by dealers. I've seen lots of Biaks sold as Jayas and Sarongs.
