respitory infections

my snakes respitory infection seems to be getting worse, i raised the heat and the humidity, and now its to the point were she has saliva or whatever it is comming out the sides of her mouth....im starting to get worried :( i want to take her to the vet but shes also starting her shedding and i don't want to mess with her.....what can i do for her? should just grab her anyway and take her to the vet or what?

yes take her to the vet and get some antibiotics or something, also what are your temps/humidity/vivarium

temp is 89 on the warm side, 47% humid, and its a wooden vivarium with glass front....i know i need to put something on the top screen

By conjecture I would say that your humidity and temperature are still a tad low. With healthy balls I aim for 90F-95F on the warm side and 50%-60% humidity, it's often recomended that when treating RIs you go higher than that (worked for my corns). I would try like 100F and 80%. If she seems really sick then she should go to the vet but in my experience (and reading) RIs clear up nicely on their own given the right environment.

Umm...not that it has happened to me, but I heard that you are supposed to lower the humidity and take it to the vet ASAP~! Maybe I am crazy though...I dunno~!

from what I understand both to high or too low a humidity can attribute to a respiratory problem, definalty get the heat up and btw what is your humidity if it is too low get it up to par.

I've heard that as well. There is a lengthy thread about RIs (and irresponsible herpetoculturalists) here (http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55058&perpage=15&pagenumber=1). I see Corey Woods' post as the definitive one in the thread and abided by his advise when successfully treating RIs in two of my corns (though with lower temps/humidity to better suit the species).

I just saw this post, damn! I have the same advice as on the last time I posted about this, your temps are too low!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have the same reaction as Coreys post about this, lower humidity? lower temps? ahhhh! This person needs advice, not bad rumours!

If you don't end up taking it to the vet, make sure that your temps are at LEAST 95 on the hot side and that you have a VERY large water dish & put a damp towel over the top of the tank to bring up the humidity.
