im new so i have a guick question, im currently building a melamine corn snake enclosure im goin to plant some ferns and i gonna use cork bark for the terrarium, i just wanted to know if potting soil is harmful to my corn and if it is, is there any other substitute. im trying to design a really easthetic terrarium for my corn so he'll be pretty spoiled :D, any feedback on good, safe subtrates for my corn will be appreciated.

Potting soil should be fine as long as there are no pesticides or herbicides in it. The problem with designing naturalistic terrariums for corn snakes is, they poop on anything and everything. How are you going to clean and sanitize a real plant?

damn it, i didnt think of that well if it craps on the substrate then i'll just scoop it up but if it poops on a plant it would be smarter to have the plant in a pot i suppose, im only gonna have about two real plants everything else will be detachable so hopefully it wont turn out so bad.

well once im done maybe between a month or two ill try to post some pictures, im still open for advice on plants, substrate or anything that could be of some help, this will be my first attempt at designing and building my own terrarium so any advice would be appreciated.
i just started using aspen bedding...and well im going to stop and keep using paper towel and newspapers!!!the stink seems to linger in the aspen and i just track it all through my apt when im cleaning cages! i think im the only one who doesnt like it though it was the most recommended substrate for me anyways,, newspaper makes it soo easy to clean.

i discovered my corn loved to burrow.......i walked in my room one day and it was nowhere to be found, i freaked out and too everything outa his cage and then he popped his head out from the dirt and stared at me, kinda freaked me out...i thought he was gone............he dug up every plant i put in his cage too

Why not use plastic plants? Some of them these days almost look real and you wouldn't even have guessed! Why not just use cypress mulch instead of the potting soil? It's only a matter of opinion but I love the way cypress looks in enclosures and you can get a nice 20lb bag I'm sure for a reasonable price.
