Fluffy showing his size

This is Fluffy huffing and puffing while I am changing his water and spot cleaning. You can see his neck is extended and he is full of air. I wish I had some way to record his hiss and load it here.
He keeps me on my toes, I wouldn't trade him for anything.
I need to find him a gal so he can work off some of that testorone.
Yes, sometimes he still smells like maple syrup.

Males tend to have a musk, to me it smells like maple syrup.
I smell it the strongest when I change dirt or cages.
Put him in an unfamilar place and he will stink it up.
I don't know if he is just doing it so other males know he is there or to attract females.
Maybe Mark will chime in on this.

dude thank you for that comment. i bought a "99.9% sure its female" black throat from turtle pimp about a month ago. when i got it everytime it pooed the house just reaked like rancid syrup and i could never figure it out i just thought it was what he was feeding her/him. but now i know that i got that .01 chance its a damn male. crazyiness

Yes that is musk you are smelling; as somebody once said, "A Muskrat guards his Musk" (guess who?)....the V. albigularis is the same, but it does not guard its musk, it squirts it out like like Peter North squirts out his $%#%#@....quite a bit....

It is a form of scenting their territory, which the cage has become, and tells everyone "This is my place" and they act accordingly....males do this more than females, but females also scent mark - I am not sure if there is a distinct difference between the musk-of-the-sexes, but I would expect there to be some differences, known only to them. They excrete this from their pores, which are more dense around their arm pits, and along their vent = they also excrete this when going to the bathroom, sometimes you will see them excrete a mound of Varapoo, and them the hemipenes pop out - that is when they're musking their musk territory.

These pheromones are to attrack females, and ward off other males. A pheromone is a chemical que that many many animals from parameceum to Man/hominids use regularly and daily...the parameceum uses it to protect themsevles, as the human hobo does too, who you can smell a mile away and keep clear of....isn't Nature Amazing!
