This is called the "Garwood" bill that will ban boids with the potential to exceed 8 feet, certain monitor species, the venomous lizards, and venomous snakes. http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2005&BillID=S1032

That really sucks for anyone in NC. i think goverments are a little to eager to just ban certain animals. Too me its stupid, the animals are rarely if ever a problem....its usually the people that own them. Whether it be pitbulls or boids. It doesn't make too much sense to me....although i have noticed there are quite a few places with large boid bans that just don't enforce it...Alberta?

Probably because thos ( BAD OWNERS) let there reptiles go and the FISH, GAME, AND WILDLIFE, have to go in and collect these species with little training and Not knowing what to do with them.

I Guess they have had enough of this and have gone to the authorities to stop ppl from having them.

Frankly, I think that is a pretty reasonable list. Much better than many other proposed lists I've seen, which often simply prohibit all boids/pythons, etc. Personally, I would up the boid limit to 10' or possibly 12', to allow for boa constrictors but still prohibit burms, rocks, reticulateds, etc. And I would add nile monitors to the prohibited varanid list.

There are a fair number of exemptions as well, though the 'licensed or accredited' term is a little vague as it doesn't describe what body is to grant licenses or accreditation, develop standards, etc.

All I have to say is fight it if you'd like yes it's b/s but you wont win. Here in NY I know there was over whelming support to fight this rediculous ban and as of January we can no longer own, Croc,Nile, Black/white throat monitors, rock, retic pythons native turtles such as red eared sliders and the list goes on it was quite rediculous but weither you want it to happen or not the government does what they want.

That isn't always true. Toronto originally proposed a law that was truly unreasonable, and with a lot of effort on the part of many people, it was changed to one that is quite reasonable though still not quite perfect.

Just make sure that what you're fighting for is something that you can convince legislators would sit well with the general public. Pushing for everyone to be able to own crocodile monitors at will is likely to be a waste of time.
