soaking lots.

My female that ovulated a couple days ago has been spending alot of time soaking in her water dish off and on for the past 2weeks. I have checked her for mites and I have not seen any. There are not any floating in the water dish.Is it normal for her to be doing this? Or is there something wrong? Any ideas or advive would be greatly appreciated, thanx.

well im not a professional but maybe your tempeture and humidity might be off. it could also be that she is going into her prelaying shed and your humidity might be off if thats not it than i dont know.

Her temp is 93 hot spot and humidity is at 60%. And she shouldn't be going into her prelay already, she just ovulated this week. But i don't know, this my first year breeding.

Humidity. We are incubating our eggs at 95% humidity, and YOUR snake has no idea you're going to steal the eggs right after laying and artificially incubate them. So, her NOT knowing this, is wanting a good spot to rest for 2 months and incubate the eggs. And she seems to be telling you that 60% humidity isn't cutting it. Which is understandable, as it wouldn't cut it in your incubator either, right?

I wouldn't mess around with a gravid snake, but I'm sure you could do it. I wouldn't though.

So just leave her alone soaking as much as she wants? It wont hurt her? Besides spraying the cage periodically.

Add a nest box, add a damp towel, mist more, etc etc etc. There's a TON of creative ways to up the humidity that's not as invasive as an entire substrate change.
