Another example of Big Breeders Holding back!

Hey Guys, I posted an add for a pair of ball pythons, a female and het ghost, When I purchased the het ghost the pic that was given to me of the father looked like a desert, so that is what I put in the add. And sure enough a day later I received a threat from NERD to remove my add, reason being. They have not released or will be releasing and Desert ghost or hets. I changed the ad and they are still complaining. Thanks

If you think about it, it is clear that NERD has every reason to be upset. I am in no way trying to bash you, but it is important not to claim to own a specific animal unless you're sure of what you possess. If it was sold to you as a Desert Ghost, then that is another story, however to make the assumption is out of line.

Bah, call it a "Dessert" ghost, make up your own new line. Every one you sell you can give away one of those Dairy Queen Sundae Tokens from the 80's (unless they still have em :) )

These big breeders have the money to spend on and develope these new morphs. They are creating themselves a monopoly, or attempting to corner the market on their particular strain.

Call it what you want, but don't use their name. It is still just a ball python. Nature's creation, and no one else's.

I do however also see their point. They spent the time and money to develope this morph, I would want to protect it as well.

Uh, yeaaaaahhh. You were specifically advertising a NERD line het Desert Ghost. I informed you that we have yet to make any animals from our Desert Ghost project available and that your ad was misleading and needed to be changed. That was more for YOUR sake than anything!

That doesn't mean we won't be making any of these animals available in the future, so please don't misquote me. I did not threaten you in any way - just asked you to remove the bogus information in your ad, which is certainly reasonable...

Then again, if you want to establish yourself as knowingly posting incorrect information about your animals as you try to sell them, well, that's your own issue.

No complaining involved - just tried to explain to you that you may not have what you think you have, whether from our line or not. I gave you a thorough explaination via PM - just trying to help you out, and I guess you're going to take it personally. Whatever.

Actually no, it wasn't about that. I just didn't want to see anyone buy a snake that was being advertised as something it clearly wasn't, only to be sorely disappointed later on.

Like it or not, attributing a snake to a certain big name breeder DOES make the snake more valuable or at least more marketable. I can say, sell a BRB as a BRB. But if I sell it as a Lemke-line BRB, it's going to sell faster and I can command a higher price. Likewise, if your BP has been attributed to Kara & Kevin, and it turns out that it was just a really nice normal, their reputation is at stake. I don't blame Kara for being upset.

lets say I have two snakes of equal colour and size, ( pastels) if I sell one as a pastel, I could get $1200-$1500.

If I sold the other as a Graziani pastel I could get more? Is that what you are meaning?

I don't blame anyone for trying to protect their name and reputation, as I said I would probably do the same.

He originally stuck "NERD" in front of it without any hard-and-fast reason to believe it was an animal from our line, much less proof. False advertising, plain and simple.

But as for it being a desert ghost, it looks like one even more so then NERD's line and if I want to call it that I may. It is very simple the father is clearly a wild caught desert ghost and I have a HET. Now if NERD is mad because I was selling it much, much, much cheeper then them. What am I to do ?

No, I was upset because you were - once again - intitally calling it an animal from our line, which it wasn't. Get it through your head!

I could care less what price tag you decide to put on an unproven animal - that's your business.

I swear...if I really wanted to deal with such a big pile of crap, I'm sure I can find a retic cage to clean. :p
