i'm interested in getting a red tail in the future, but i was just wondering, what is it's temperment like, is it ok with being handled, i've done some research on it and all the websites i've visited say that it is a relatively tame and docile snake.
i would just like some first hand input.
thanks dudes and dudettes.

Little neonates will be somewhat nippy at first but as the snake gets older and more acostomed(sp?) to you and to handling you wont have any problems with it being agressive

As babys they can be a bit flighty and a little nippy to , but with regular handling and with age they tame down quite nicely.Although my yearling that had hardly any handling in their life are very calm have never tried to bite , I quess it all depends on the individual snake. As adults they can be great snakes and very docile and easy to handle . Good luck .

my red tail is soo friendly, just make sure to always wash your hands, especially if u smoke, in fact when snakes are young its good to hadle them every day or so for about 15 minutes to get them to know ur not trying to eat them

larger, older red tails are almost always calm but depending on how they were raised and handled determins just how nice they are. my 5 foot red tail is very sweet, shes never bit me or even struck at me. she will however hiss her butt off when shes in a bad mood (shedding or extra hungry) but even in her worst moods i can still handle her and within seconds shes calm as a puppy. shes even curld up in my lap and gone to sleep before.

again as every one else has said babies are much different. my younger red tail is almost 3 feet and just geting over being shy. he use to always keep his head pulled back, never struck or bit me, but was definetly nervous. now hes cool though. so i would recomend geting one thats a little older unless you dont really care. good luck, they are my favorite snakes!
