Last year I bred my 2 females kenyan, but I used sand that year.
This year I use betta chip. So, I'm asking when my kenyans copulated last year, their tail were outside of the sand. I would like to know if it's the same thing in betta chip, or if they are able to breed directly in the chip?
Because, last year in march, my kenyan copulated all the time, and this year, nothing!
So, maybe they copulate in the beta chip and I can't see them, or maybe they are not ready.
I know that boa are cycling ... if a female breed at one time of the year, do you think that the next year she will breed at the same time of the year?
Thank you very much
Carole

Never fear... I can honestly say I have produced Kenyans through their entire life cycle on BETA chip, in fact several generations of them....
They breed in it, they eat in it and they give birth in it...
They usually breed with their tails above the substrate but
It's early for Kenyans to be breeding...
They generally breed a couple months after the end to winter cooling...
None of mine are breeding yet...This doesn't usually happen till May into June with babies coming in the fall after a 4 month gestation.
Kenyans are actually fairly late breeders. Conicus, Johnii and Rosy boas all breed before colubrinus loveridgei.

I suspect yours just aren't ready yet and this is largely a function of when they are cooled and warmed. If your cooling schedule was different from last year then they will likely ovulated at a differnt time.
I have fairly well controlled automated cooling and heating, so every year mine reproduce at the same time, but people using
"natural cooling" will have wide differences from year to year
I can always tell when its time in my collection, because the males stop eating and go around and around and try to escape to find the females.

Can Beta chips be bought online? Where? I can't find them anywhere! No one has even heard of them.

THANKS

They're a lab rodent bedding. They can't be bought on line as far as I know.
They are produced by NEPCO

Thanks Stockwell!
I use natural cooling... it's probably for that they are not breeding right now. Thanks for answer. I'll wait! :)

I just want to know, do you put the male and female toguetter when they are in full cooling or when you began to raise temperature at the end of the cooling period? I read that temperature should be about near 55F, do you agree on that?

Thank you
