Just got my beardie about 2 days ago. He really isnt eating much, how long should i give him to adjust to the tank before i become worried? He will eat about a couple crickets a day but only if i break some legs off and put them in front of him because he seems too lazy to move from his basking spot.

do you have the tempetures right??about 100-105 basking and about 85 in non basking areas???? is the beardie active at all??? mine will sprint 10 feet to get a criket, as you said maybe it is settling in but all of mine have taken food the first day, and all the temps were correct, maybe check that good luck. it does definatley look like you have everything in order, but make sure you do check those temps. hopefully someone else will have more suggestions for you, good luck and have of fun beardies are an amazing pet!!!!

basking around on the hammock is about 105 degrees and the hot area around 90... cool area is probly around 75-80

hmmmmm will your bd eat veggies??fruits??? mine love grapes maybe try that, . maybe he's still stressed from the move. also try the cricets with and without calcium powder, i have one bd that wont eat anything that doesnt have calcium on it (he was this way when i got him) maybe yours has never had supplements. its deffinatley nessecary to get him to eat with supplements, but hey who knows maybe it is something like that.

hes really lazy, i had him eating some collard greens (maybe like 3 small pieces) but only if i put it next to him on the basking log. he seemed hesitant though

maybe you should try a smaller humting area.. or hand feed.. but be careful theyll become lazy with alot if hand fed food

I would first suggest a smaller cage so he doesnt feel to stressed out. Also that basking spot might be hard to get to, the hamock. Just used piled up rocks, that works best.

Then try crickets and veggies. If you jsut got him, dont handle him until hes eating normally, which is usually within 2 weeks at most, unless theres a bigger problem.

he can easily get to the hammock, i am getting mixed responses about the tank, wont a 10g be hard to manage the correct temps?


i forgot to mention, earlier he chased down and ate like 7 crickets, this was about 11am, shouldnt he be hungry by now? its 6:30

well i have my baby in a 10 gal and it was idficult to get temps right but i just raised the temp around him.. you could put the 10 gal in the large tank and put the basking light on top of the 10 gal and use a ceremic to raise the ambient.. thats what i did

yes a 10 gallon doesnt give you much of a temp diff.... but as long as the little guy is eating, then its probably gonna be fine in that 20 g, i wouldnt move it into a smaller one, especially now where he is eating.

Sounds to me like you have done everything right. I wouldn't woory to much as long as he is eating something and exploring. I keept my babies in a 65 gallon just fine. I did notice that you have a trophy set up which I would gess that you want to show off. I would too! Is it in a hight traffic area? Could just be sensory overload. Try covering the glass with news paper for a few days to let him get used to his new home before he gets used to everything else going on around him!
P.S. I think your set up looks great I am sure he will have alot of fun growing there!

Thanks, i appreciate it. The tank is currently in my room so its really just me and sometimes my girl. Ill try covering the front glass panel and see how he does, again thanks for the replies.

When I got my first beardie, she ate very little the first two, maybe a few crickets a day and some collards. She is now my biggest eater, she will stomp on the bigger beardie to get her food.

Don't worry too much, they are all different according to how much settling in they need. Some will eat on day one, others will need a week or more. Keep the temps around 105 at the basking spot and you'll be fine. Be happy he's eating, as time goes on he'll be eating more; and then you'll complain that he's eating too much. LOL.

I was having the same problem with this little girl(well she used to be little) untill she settled in! Now if I let her she would eat me out of house and home:D
