Can anyone fill me in a bit on any of these turtles? Are there any laws (not city bi-laws but actually provincial/federal laws) about keeping, or selling them?

softshell turtles,
yellow belly cooter
red ear slider
painted turtle

I know there is a law protecting Painted Turtles. I believe you are not allowed to keep a wc one over 3 inches or something to that extent.

Red ear sliders are for sale all the time in pet stores, unfortunatly, so im sure there fine to keep. Ill tell you now, they dont make good pets unless you're ready to house a turtle that lives a LONG time and gets relatively big.

As far as provincial laws go, painted turtles and eastern spint softshell turtles are protected, the other 2 you mentioned are fine to keep.
