66% poss. het vs. Homozygous

After some consideration I decided that this was the proper forum for this...

How are 66% poss. het for a mutation snakes usually priced vs. homozygous snakes exhibiting a gene?

Does it depend on the over all price of the homozygous-type snakes or is it usually only a couple dollars more than a normal? Or is it the same as a normal?

Seeing as you can't tell normals from the hets I would imagine that seeing as 2/3 hatchlings carry the gene for a mutation the hatchlings would be a small fraction more in cost than just a normal, as it's kind of a gamble.

Does it depend on the species? The mutation?

If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

With the snakes I've shopped around for, 66%'s are usually a bit more than normals, but not as much as 100% hets. If I were to guess, I would go with probably less than 25% more than a normal.

Depends alot on the snake and the mutation in question. For example - a 66% het anery hondo would probably be priced the same as a normal hondo. The anery gene on it's own isn't widely sought unless it is being combined with one of the other mutations(amel, hypo) -- too bad cause I like Anerys... ;)

A 66% het Pied Ball on the other hand would not be priced the same as a normal ball...

Personally, since you are buying a "het" that is anything but 100%, the price should be greatly less than that of a 100% animal, seeing as how there is always a chance that the animal is just a normal.
Ideally (for arguements sake):
Het animal: $1000
66% het animal: $666
50% het animal: $500
I feel the price of a het should be in direct relation to the percentage of it's possible "hetness".

Sex is a factor especially with BPs. Females that are possible hets are worth more than males. Females in general are always worth more than males though. IMHO pos het males aren't worth buying unless you are paying the same price as a normal one. Might as well get a 100% het male or better yet the actual morph, to go with pos het or het females IMHO For a sex price example lets talk 100% het for albino BPs. Males are $200-$300 females are $1,000. They are worth 3-5 times more because of their sex. Thus the males that are only pos hets aren't worth more than a common ($100-$200) & the pos het females are still worth $400. When ya get into the piebalds things change somewhat, but they will become more comparable to say albinos over time as more folks start producing them. Heck not but a few years ago albino BPs were $5,000 CDN now they are $3,000 or less & IMHO will continue to drop more in the next 2-3 years as will the other BP morphs as more & more are produced & become more readily available.
