What do you see?
I believe that I still sometimes see fear in my savvy's eyes after all this time.
Most of the time, though, I see trickery and mischief... he's a sneaky little bugger.

I've seen that look before. It's the same look I get from my kids when I catch them doing something they aint supposed to be doing.

Do varanids know good from bad? I don't think so...I think they know food, this is warm, I am cold, I go to bathroom over here, that 'thing' takes away my poo and fills my water, that 'thing' pics me up = is he going to eat me? Is there a martial eagle nearby? Why am I in the air? Can I get away? Where do I hide!
stuff like that...

Yeah, they definately know food!!
They also seem to remember where they last went to the washroom, and use that spot over and over again. I was surprised to see that it is the farthest place from where he regularily sleeps.
There sure is a higher process going on in their heads though...

Mike,
If you put newspaper at the spot they 'go' at, and after a few weeks, move the clean newspaper to another spot, they often will then go on the newspaper = paper trained; I got my savanna monitors to do that 22+ years ago...its fun to see them paper trained, like a puppy.

Well, I think I'll try that... how do you keep them from destroying the newspaper though?
