View Full Version : Wire Cages?
I have a very large rodent cage that is about 5ft tall and 3ft wide, it has levels as the cage goes higher. I was going to trash it as I dont have anything to fit the cage, and a friend online said I should place my 2ft iguana in the cage. Has anyone has experience with wired cages? I heard they cause scrapes and such, though never actually tried it....

I havent heard to many good things about wired cages, However i have seen alot of pictures of iguana cages being made out of wire mesh. I dont think it would be good for humidity, but it is a good size till your iguana gets longer.
Thanks, im going to think about it. Any more advice is appreciated.
Wire sucks for iguanas. It can cause all the scratches cuts and problems you have heard about.
For iguanas, the only way to go is wood and plexi glass. POSSIBLY that plastic coated wire would work as well.
I am also moving this to the ENCLOSURE forum.

Thank you for moving this thread Marisa. I have also heard they cause scratches and such, then again I have seen many (if not most) Iguana cages made out of this material. I am most certainly placing soft bedding in the enclosure if I choose to do this. It would provide him with alot of more space.....
I am still not sure how a wire cage could be used succesfully.
You can't keep humidity up. Long term low humidity levels can cause problems in iguanas. And heat will also escape.

Yeah, im not going to risk it.
