tegu help?

I have been lookig into getting a tegu for a while now, and I have a few questions.

1: Can someone give me an example of thier tegu's weekly diet?

2: I am having trouble trying to think of a tank to build and save on room would 4x4 with a 2x4 rock platform work along with a burrow. I want to make it mostly out of rock but I dont know If that is suitable for an Argentine b&w

3: when its out roaming I will lock my cats in another room. but If one were to somehow get out Is my tegu going to attack it or be cool about it?

4: do all tegu's hibernate and how long?

1. Tegu's are omnivores theywill eat anything and everything.

2. Personally I think 4'x4' is to small for an animal that can reach 4 feet in length

3. I would be more worried about what the cat's would do, not the tegu.

4. An animal will only hibernate if it has the proper conditions to hibernate. If you don't plan on breeding then there's no real reason to put them through hibernation. However if you don't hibernate them they will reach their adult size in roughly 18 months.

By the sounds of your questions you've done very little research, and maybe you should hold off on getting a tegu for a while longer.

It will be at least 3 months before i get my house added onto so I have to wait anyhow. I have done a lot of research but its only the beginnig.

The cage I am dreaming up would be made from a lot of rock with a lot of basking cliffs and hides built into the rock. it will be 4x4 of bottom floor space and easy access to other platforms like 2x4 feet so it could climb some.

Really my biggest hurdle is the cage design, I need to save as much room as possible, but the tegu needs to be comfortable in it. Do they like to climb at all. I am open to any suggestions

Agama International is a great place to get info from, Bert is a great guy. I have been to his place a few times and once you get past his accent he is full of info.
You can email him with questions and he will answer. If you live in a warm climate he will reccomend an outside enclosure.
As far as hibernation, mine goes down in early December until late March. I don't force it to hybernate. I don't change the temps or feedings, it just stops eating and buries itself.
