Well I came home yesterday at around 10 from Costa Rica. I can say, I had one hell of a time. It was definitely the most amazing experience of my entire life. We stayed in Limon, Costa Rica for 6 of the 7 days and the first night we were in San Jose, the capital. San Jose is a pretty nice place and a lot more developed then I would have thought.
We stayed at the Cano Palma Biological research station with the owners Mario and Jenna, who were SUCH great people. They are 26 and 24 so it was cool to see two very young people take on such responsibility. Basically this is a place for researches to stay while doing their studies, as well both Mario and Jenna conduct research all day for environment Canada. Right now they are keeping track of leather back turtles. A few people from our group saw one the last night but pretty much everyone was asleep. That was the only thing I missed that REALLY sucked, but they got footage of it and we are expecting a pro edited video of the trip in about a month. 3 of the guys that went are really good with video and stuff, so it should be sweet :D
I got a crap load of pictures. We ended up finding, I believe, 48 species of reptiles and amphibians. I don’t have pictures of all of them but I got a bunch. I found the first snake of the trip :D That was a great feeling. It was a blunt nosed tree snake.
A list of what I remember we found was,
Green basilisk
Brown basilisk
Common basilisk
Green iguana
A handful of different anole species
House geckos
Poison dart frogs, mostly dendrobates pumillio
Cat eyed snake
Snail eating snake
Blunt nosed tree snake, both yellow and grey
2 eyelash vipers, a red and grey one
fer de lance, which was about 3 feet +
Yellow headed lizards
Mexican parrot snakes
Tons of caiman
Cane toads
Spotted night lizard
amieva's
Lots of different species of frogs, like climbing toads
Cone headed lizard
and a ton more that i cant remember right now
We also saw bats, an otter, tons of birds like toucans, Hercules and rhino beetles, two tarantulas, howler, spider, and white faced monkeys, lots of crazy insects, birds of prey, scorpions, and man so much more. It was really unbelievable and I miss it.
The weather was prefect; it was the dry season, so we didn’t have to trek through mud or water. Some mud but nothing you couldn’t stay out of.
Here are a ton of pics...
