I heard about this cool rip off story. Apparently Sum 41s 'Peices" song is a chord for chord, beat by beat, pause by pause simmilarity to Coldplays 'The Scientist". I did a google search and it comes up. alot.
The link they had was down so i just played both songs on Mixcraft and the simmilaritys where...... striking to say the least! lol i ended up mixing my own for kicks.
Anyone else heard of this story?

JUtin O I would have to agree with you as far as the commercail aspect goes. But as far as local talent, Winnipeg has tonnes.
My one buddies band EPPTIDE is tottaly original, mix of funk, jazz, and some reggea type beats. No vocals so far but it is still amazing.
If anyone is looking for good music check out your local talent. I think you'll be surprised at the amount of talent your city has. OR maybe its just wpg, and t.o lol j/k

But as far as Jlo goes, she couldnt have ripped off ushers song any better. IT is pretty much exactly the same. The local hip-hop and r&b station ( which is really good by the way) played the two songs back to back, and wow.
So usher writes and records this song "ride", but in the end decides not to put it on the album. So his producer then takes the track without Ushers permission and takes it to Jlo.
How awful the music biz has become.
ANouther show was talking about rackstars.
They were asking tommy lee and someone else if they knew any rockstars over the age of 30. They could not think of one.
Is rock dying? I hope not
and to all you nickle back fans. They are not rockstars get over it lol

peace

The Stones (Jagger), Aerosmith (Tyler), Cheap Trick, The Who (Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry)...

Those are a few of my favourite bands and a few rockstars that are way the heck over 30. :D Classic rock rules.

I tried the Sum 41/Coldplay thing, I have both CDs. I think it's a bit of a stretch, and I don't think Sum 41 is sitting there ripping off Coldplay on purpose. I couldn't bring myself to download any Jennifer Lopez so that's up for debate :p

I totally agree with Heather, About everything she just said. And for rockers over 30 HEather named a few and I belive there is still is alot more.

As for Sum 41 copying Billy Talent, is anybody sure its not opposite or if they have permission to use the same song as they are really close friends.

If I was downloading anything about J Lo it wouldn't be her music! ;) :D :p

Pretty much half the popular songs are remakes of an older song or if by some miracle a song they write does well then you hear remixes of it for the next three years. REMIX!!!!!!!

I would rather listen to Scandinavian rock over N. Am.s crap Alternative anyday of the week. TB

I listen to what sounds good and what I like. I don't care if its ripped off, original, stolen, mainstream, underground, country, rap, hip hop, rock or WHATEVER!

If it sounds good to my ears, I listen. That's what music is about for me. :)

There's Kiss and The Scorpions. ;) I think Vanhalen falls under that to, but not totally sure.

And course not, Rock is most definately not dieing. It's just that bands are coming out to please the younger crowd, and there is way more new genre's being born then when I was a kid. I mean screemo, emo ect didn't exist 10 or so years ago. Because of that, the younger generation now seems to be focusing on punk, screemo and emo types. What's interesting is these older bands that Heather listed reflected on the new genre's to an exstent and boom...new types of music. Rock will always be reflected upon any band and the genre they form, as well their music. ;)

Everytime I hear the start of that sum 41 tune, I think it's the start of that crappy Cranberries tune. I don't know which one's worse!
Zero: As for "Emo" and "screemo" not being around 10 years ago, I'll have to disaggree with you on that one. It might not have been mainstream like it is now, but it was definately around.

I like the Cranberries :(

And as if I forgot Kiss...

I couldnt agree more. People are like, "huh?" when they ask what I listen to and I say "everything".

Heather:
They would be much better if she didn't do that yodel-type singing! She did it the odd time when they first came out and that was fine and everybody liked it, so everything that came out after that was straight yodelling. I personally think it's sort of like selling out. Wasn't trying to insult you. Sorry.
I listen to everything as well...except for the cranberries! LOL
just bugging ya!

I only like two songs anyway, and I know how yodelly-singing can make people go crazy for sure.

KISS rules! :D

I always thought KISS should have been alot heavier than they were. They were always dressed up all evil and scarry lookin', but their songs weren't heavy at all. They just thought they were so bad, and they were right! LOL I'm with JeffT. SLAYER!!! Now that's some heavy shhtuff.

Kirk Hammet, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Robert Trujillo.
Van halen isn't a rockstar... he's a legend!
Slayer is good too...
Zakk Wylde,
Ozzy Osbourne,

There are only so many things you can do on a guitar that the general public will appreciate... Anyways, nowadays image is more important than talent when it comes to pop music...
