Hey i just bought a baby RES from www.turtlesale.com. Came recommended from a friend. IT apparently is about the size of a quarter. How deep should the water in my tank be for this turtle. I have heard no more than 2 inches. Is this true?
The water should be deep enough so that the little guy would be able to right itself if it got flipped over, but not so deep that it can't touch the bottom on its "tippy toes". I generally recommend water the same depth as the width of the shell for hatchlings....but others may have different recommendations...
Also- make sure that you have an easily accessible area for the little one to haul out on so it can dry off, with a heat/UV basking light. The babies are especially prone to metabolic disorders from lack of UV light and poor nutrition.
Hope this helps. One more tip - do an internet search for RES caresheets and read a whole bunch of them!! There's lots of good info out there! If you have any other questions, though, please ask!
Good luck!
