i was wondering if one of those 20gallon long aquariums with the sliding screen lid would work? maybe if it was tipped upright so the length of it would be vertical rather then horizontal?

A 20 gallon tipped upright would work. My buddy does that with his cresties. Im not sure what sliding screen lid you are talking about though, I would have to see a pic. Maybe someone else would know which aqauriums you are taking about.
BTW did you ever get my reply from your email?

Do you mean a tank with the sliding glass? Taking the glass out and replacing them with screens?

its a 20 gallon long but the top of it has a locking screen lid that slides in a track. so the front of it would be where the screen would be if i turned it upright. lol did that make any sense?

pinnhead, I have some of those enclosures so I know what your talking about. I do not use them for cresties though... The tank is definetly big enuff, just try setting it up right when it is empty and see if it is still possible to slide the screen off?

yes it does work(slides fiarly smoothly)...just so you know the dimensions would be 12x12x30 (LxWxH). so just to double check it would be adequate? and another question whats the minimun for 2 cresties?
thanks alot,
josh

I used to have a couple of pairs in 27 gallons that were stood up on end like what you are describing. The only problem I ever had with this setup was the limited amount of groundspace there was for things like hides, corkbark, water dishes and food dishes. The ground space I had to work with was roughly 12x18 and you would have even less. On the plus side it does afford for a fair amount of height! If you can make it work for yourself though the amount of space would a minimum size for a pair or trio depending on who's info you read.

I've got a 25 gallon tank stood on end, and solved the floor space problem to some extent. I siliconed some plastic shelves to the walls (small undergravel filter plates left over from my fish days) with a support (UFG upriser stem) to hold up the middle. Just wrap a silk vine around the upriser and it doesn't look too bad. Use the shelf for food and water dishes.

you might want to be careful using that 20 gallon on its side, since the screen lid has to slide off and doesn't just lift off. I imagine that you crested will often hide on the lid much like mine does, this would make it impossible to open the cage on a whim. My neighbor has a similar cage and deals with this problem a lot.
