Nothin to see here folks...just move along! ;)

I absolutely love the way these guys use their dermal folds to "blend" with their surroundings. They aren't really prone to jumping fits like cresteds or gargoyles either. They just seem to glide over the surface they are on so that they can "blend" if they need to.

I had the camera out tonight so I thought I'd get a few shots of our chahoua and post them up for everyone to enjoy! :D

This is Grumpy

A few shots of the other male. He is very melanistic and the red in him is quite striking!

And this last shot I thought was pretty cool because it caught the melanistic boy doing his disappearing act that he loves to do on me when I'm takin pics of him.

The fade is literally him disappearing behind the corkbark!

Hope you all enjoy! :)

I just love your chahoua's especially the melanistic colour. How old are they? I have one that is around 6 months old and is still showing female. I want to add another but am waiting to make sure of what sex I have..........

Since chahoua don't show signs of TDSD, you have a good chance of having a female. If I were you, I'd get another one regardless of what sex that one is. They aren't the easiest to breed, and very tricky to get eggs to hatch and babies to survive. So, getting a second one with even odds (genetic sex determination), you could end up with a pair, and getting it soon gives you more time (years) to grow them to maturity. They mature relatively slow, don't wait too long to get the other one. If you do have 2 of the same gender, you have a bargaining tool to trade for the right one if you find one.

The only other Rhac species that's not TDSD is the Rhacodactylus trachyrinkydinkydoo thingees. I can never spell the name and no hope of pronouncing it.

Thanks everyone!
They have such a different personality from the other commonly kept rhacs that I think anyone who loves the genus really should give them a try! :D

Betty - We got these guys last August from Neil Meister, and in my excitement to get them I completely forgot to ask him how old they were! I'd guess them as being about a month or two old when we got them, which would put them in the 8-9 month old range. I really need to remember to ask him one of these days! I would agree with Hilde about the probability of yours being female. They are pretty much like the rest of the rhacs when it comes to sexing, only the females do seem to have a little more bunchy skin hangin out around the cloaca which may make it a little more difficult for you without another to compare it to. Both males are noticeably different then the females (like the rest of the rhacs ;) ), but I did find that the two of them developed their bulges at different paces! :)
We really lucked out with these guys as we bought 4 in the hopes of getting at least one unrelated pair, but they turned out to be 2 pairs! Good ol even split worked in our favor it seems! By this summer I should be 100% sure on the sex and then we will have to decide whether or not we will keep both pairs, or possibly sell one of them. We really want to get a few pine isle chahoua, but space limitations are fast becoming a serious issue!
Might be time for a bigger "facility"! o>
