Just wondering what my fellow ssnakess members do for fun! No flaming here please, if you don't agree with someones hobbies just keep it to yourself or start another thread, this is intended to be a "friendly" discussion. thanks!

Mine are

I climb at Red River Gorge in Kentucky--climbers heaven! Gorgeous area! I also climb at a gym--it's an old church that's been renovated. Outdoor climbing is the BEST! You gotta do it.... especially climbing sandstone--my persnonal favorite. :D

Joey: that gym looks awsome, makes the ones I go to look like a pit! I'm hoping to get up to the Milton area here in Ontario this year and do some outdoor climbing, but it's harder for me, about a 3 hour drive to the nearest face. I'm sure it'll be worth the trip!

joey
03-04-05, 11:16 AM
Yeah, it's about about a 3 hour drive from where I am to Red River Gorge. I go in the Summer with a group of friends--we do a lot of day trips or whole weekends. There are lots of sport climbing spots as well as traditional.

What are you climbing at the gym now?

gargoyle
03-04-05, 11:20 AM
Joey: for ratings still playing it pretty low, 5.9, 5.10 and played with some unrated that seemed a little harder than the 5.10's. Just do it for the fun and excercise, I push my limits with my other hobbies, this just keeps me active (and gives me a hell of a workout). I know at Milton most runs are below 5.10 so up here shouldn't be a problem, but I've heard there are a lot of awsome routes at Red River. you'll have to share some pics sometime, maybe tempt me for a summer trip.

joey
03-04-05, 11:29 AM
do you have your own equipment? shoes, harness, belaying device or do you rent from the gym? Climbing a 5.9-5.10 is cool for outdoor climbing. Outdoor, in most cases, is harder than in the gym. Taking a fall outdoors is scarier that ALL GET OUT. but fun, nonetheless. ;)

Hell of a workout is right! I have to becareful because my back and neck are prone to getting hurt. I love climbing though!

I'll post up some pictures when I get ahold of a digital camera.

gargoyle
03-04-05, 11:32 AM
Ya I've got enough equip. for a couple people, I'm a gadget freak so probably overkill being that I haven't even made it outdoors, but I will! I've got three of almost everything shoes, ropes, harness belays, three sets of nuts and cams, rappel rack, I've got about 12 ATC belays (ebay deal), etc. etc. Can't wait till the weather gets warmer here.

joey
03-04-05, 11:38 AM
dag gone! you DO have lots of equipmet! :)

do you lead climb or top rope?

gargoyle
03-04-05, 11:50 AM
Like I said, so far just the gym, but I've taken one lead climb course and a top rope course. Milton is mostly top rope friendly area so that's what I'll be doing there!

Learning about training and working with horses, testing it out without getting kicked or bit, fishing for sure, reading good books, learning more about reptiles, wildlife and prehistoric animals, local history, camping, hiking, photography (scenery, horse, snake and wildlife) viewing the abundant wildlife in the area, looking for skulls, antlers, fossils, petrified wood and interesting things found on the ground - exploring new places (to me), upland game bird hunting, deer hunting, rifle, bow and arrow and crossbow target shoting, growing giant pumpkins (maybe this year again) - and I'm sure a few others that I missed.

I could say guitar if I still took it out to play it, a gibson SG and Marshall amp - but things are always so busy, I dont' play nearly as much as I should. I used to be pretty good - I should try to keep up with it more.

Oh, and having seen Ken do Karoke gave me my first appreciation for Karoke - I had always thought it was very lame and for major dumbasses. I was very suprised by the talent from many of the reptile people - and enjoyed listening to all of them sing songs (I still have nightmares about summer days). This ended up leading me to singing karoke at a house full of drunken people in Leader one night at 3:00 - and finding out I could actually sing pretty decently - just add liquor.

I race radio-controlled off-road cars. I race a 1/8th scale 4wd off-road buggy. This buggy is powered by a .21 ci engine that uses a nitro blend as fuel. It's good for about 45 mph.

I also race a 1/10th scale offroad stadium truck. It is powered by the same type of engine, except in .12 ci size. It's good for about 50-55 mph.

It is a great hobby and quite affordable to get into. There are many tracks, both onroad and offroad, in the southern Ontario area. If you would like more info I'd be glad to provide it. Just PM me!

I also trap shoot when I have the time....

Here is a pic of my buggy. No body or servos, but you get the idea.

Oh man where to begin here.
Besides herps:

Computer stuff, games, building and tweaking systems, case modification and networking.

Active in the Society for Creative Anachronism. It's a medieval recreation society. Nothing like charging a wall of shields and pikes with the rest of your berzerker unit let me tell ya :) (we do full contact rattan weapons combat)

Taking crappy pics of stuff that's not herps. It's sort of a recent thing. I need to get a much better camera :)

Geocaching. Basically take 1 GPS unit add several hundred thousand hidden 'caches' around the world and go find em!

Paintball

Used to be into R/C Car stuff but sold it all off when I moved up to Edmonton from Calgary.

Miniature Wargaming, specifically Warhammer Fantasy. Still have all my stuff but haven't played in a long time.

I'm sure i've missed a few others but I neglect most of the above list so much it's probably not even fair to mention the stuff I do less :)

I just bought an xbox a few weeks ago, now I think I am going to flunk out of university......again

I also mountain bike, snowboard, drive (yes, sometimes I just go for hours. shifting a nice precise manual transmission is like valium for me....) and since I a ma student, with a part time job, herps and a long term girlfriend that lives 45 min away, I get to do a lot of driving.

in the summer I spend my weekends at Sauble beach on lake huron (that's very close to where I grew up) and I have to blow off the city on a weekely basis. I just get so claustraphobic. I took a rodatrip to toronto yesterday afternoon, that is one place I DON'T like driving.

also into music of all kinds and playing with my year old cat to help keep her fit.
