Hey guys, being that cilliatus are a nocturnal species, and often some will eat only in the night, how do you guys ensure your geckos are eating sufficiently?

They poop sufficiently. As long as you see new poop regularly, as in more than twice a week, then they should be fine. Also it will be obvious if their ribs are showing or seem malnourished, or if it's a female, eggs will be poorly nourished.

Scrape the poop off the glass and spot clean on the ground and you shouldn't have a problem.

Same here - watch for poop. And once they aren't teeny weeny I check for dents in the babyfood, and for any crickets not eaten.

You can always be like me and spoil your crestie.............once every few days, dab his nose in the food and watch him lick the food...........hence, you know he ate plus as an added bonus, you are getting him very handleable. :)

Good advice all around. Another method would be to look at the feeding dish the day after and see how much is gone. With CGD it may seem like very little is gone when compared to babyfood but since it is packed with nutrients, cresties will become full a lot quicker.

Feeding them by hand is always fun too :)

I put full Coke bottle caps of food (CGD) in my enclosures, and by the next day they've been licked clean...

Works for me! :flick:

Feeding your geckos every other or third night is a good way to ensure they are eating and relishing every drop of food placed in their enclosure.. If food is always available it's hard to monitor your geckos feeding habits. Crickets will roam free around the enclosures losing their nutrients. If you want action and a better stimulated food response alternate cgd-crickets-cdg....It's recommended by most ;)

I mix my babyfood with CGD. Is this wrong. Should I put CGD mixed with water only...instead of with babyfood?

I would try to phase it out in small amounts until your geckos are eating pure cgd. The baby food messes up the balance of nutrients within the cgd.

Thanks Dave,

So your suggesting just putting the CGD in by itself and they will eat it. No water CGD mix? Thanks

Add water ;)
I try to follow the directions on the back 1 part crested gecko diet, two parts water. Mix it up nicely it will be a little runny but they will still eat it! A teaspoon of the powder with 2 parts water is good for one adult. Make sure they have a water bowl or a heavy mist for drinking water the diet is really filling. If your geckos are used to babyfood in it they might not switch over cold turkey but they will have no other choice if you continue with just cgd. goodluck.

For all crestie and even more for babies

CGD mixed with babyfood on a cardboard, I put small spots of CGD

This way I'm able to see more accuratly what they hate.
