Hello ..

Any advvise would be apreciated..

22 days after prelay my jungle started laying .. heres the weird thing .. she started at noon, laid about 18 eggs then left them and laid 4 more her and there .. after a while of inactivity I took the eggs out .. left her came back in the evening and I could still palpate two eggs right at her oppening

Decided to leave it over night right .. see how that goes .. no lay of those two eggs.. I do not beleive I have never witnessed or heard of egg bounded pythons?

What steps do I take now? More time ,, warm water .. should I get the meds that make her lay (vet) .. (I could have em in a few hours) ..

This boogle my mind ..

Tx for all the help ..

Ohh and 21 out of 22 are fertile wich is good :) just don't want to loose the female

Dom,

Yes, dystocia (egg binding or difficulty in laying eggs) is somewhat common in pythons. There are several potential causes of the problem, including mis-shaped eggs, eggs that are stuck together and eggs that are too large. You may try soaking her in baby-bath warm water, and/or you may also try gently messaging the retained eggs out thru the cloaca. *However, use extreme caution when doing so, or you risk rupturing or prolapsing the oviduct. Dystocia can be fatal, so if she doesn't pass the eggs soon, you may want to take her to a qualified vet.

Good luck and keep us posted.

In reguards to the Oxytocin its been my experience with Colubrids that if you don't use it in the first 24 hours it usually isn't effective. I'm glad to hear the warm bath & gentle manipulation (or whatever you did?) worked. I have had to aspriate eggs in the past on multiple occassions with Colubrids also. Sounds like things turned out OK for you without having to go there. Were the problem eggs infertile? I ask because again with Colubrids its been my experience that the infertile eggs seem to be the ones that cause the egg binding problems. Good Luck Mark
P.S. For anyone else reading this thread as Will said GENTLE is key in manipulation a prolapsed female is a bad scene indeed! Lost a nice Corn to prolapse last year DOH!

Oxytocin is most effective if given within the first 24 hours after laying has started.
In general oxytocin only works 50% of the time in snakes. It is most effective in chelonia (80-90%) and least effective in lizards (20%).
There can be complications with using oxytocin in an innapropriate circumstance.....uterine rupture is the most unwanted.
glad to hear all went well Dom
