ok i have a young bci(about 2 feet) and he has been soaking almost nonstop for days

now i have had the mite problem(with the bci in question) and that was the first thing i looked for and nada no mites

now he has soaked like this b4 once with the mites mentioned above

and he has soaked like this b4 sheds
but he just finished a shed cycle last week

now at first i just kinda ignored it and thought that it was his normal self(he loves to soak, but has only soaked like this for the problems i said above) but i'm starting to worry

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey Micheal,

As far as soaking goes, there are usually two problems associated:

Mites: check him thoroughly, specifically around the eyes. If he is soaking in the water, look through the water for small black dots. If these ooze red when you squeeze them, you have mites.

Temperatures: maybe the temperatures in your enclosure are too high for him, and he is using the water to cool himself. Check your ambient temperatures and that of your hot spot and ensure they are adequate.

If none of the above are pertinent, he is likely soaking simply because he wants to.
