Ian, no Maude's tonight. Chad can't make it and V-ball is now pushed ahead so late. I'm gettin' old so......... Call me tomorrow. I think we're stylin'.
Tim-o-tay, the hide is a 1/2 of a tree-trunk bark. Fir. Very old. I have 3 of them. I love them. Not as much as the plywood hides i utilize, but I like something different once in a while. ;)

I dunno man, that Paul can drink insane amounts of Jack. It'd take a king's ransom worth of Jack to put that bastage down, LOL!! ;)
Hey Jeff,
I love all the pics you keep posting but I've been wondering what kind of bark nuggets are you using for substrate. They look the wrong color for cypress and I thought pine bark was a big no, no.
Sorry if I'm off topic,
Rob
P.s The video spotlight this month on your site is awesome. That little guy is lightening fast!!

Orchid Bark from interior fir trees. No resin in the bark. Bark is dead "wood" (actually outer cambium, known as "cork cambium") and has none of the phenols in it.
Cheers Rob!! :)

I had posted in another thread, but since it is more "on topic" in this one, I'll post my question here... does that mean that pine bark would be fine for ball pythons? I can't get cypress mulch or orchid bark here unless I'd order a pallet of it I guess... what I can get though is pine bark, and I can probably get LOTs of it in the spring (soon).... I would really like to try it out if it's not going to kill my snakes.. I don't want to risk anything, so if there are any risks I'd rather stick with shredded aspen...
Thanks,
Bristen.

I use fir bark. I can't say about pine bark. It could have resins and pitch that seep through. I don't know your source. Bark normally has nothing in it, but without actually inspecting your stuff, I ain't going to make a call that could be detrimental to your collection.

I'll see if I can find some fir bark then.. here in NB, we're loaded with trees, so I can only get local softwood bark it seems.. they don't import all that fancy orchid bark 'n' stuff...
Thanks for your opinion Jeff.

like I said in the other thread, I'm not risking with pine bark... I'll be looking for fir bark in the spring, but I don't think anybody is going to have any of that stuff just yet.. too early... I'll keep you posted though :)
Later,
Bristen.
