I want to buy my first ever rubbermaid for a ball python I plan to buy soon. I was looking around, and notice there are many rubbermaid models available, made from different materials, and different people seem to use different ones.

I have a couple of pictures here. Could someone please tell me which kind of rubbermaid I should buy? Thanks.

I realize ideally longer and less tall is better- Im just looking at materials and lid types here. :)

Also would a standard Exo Terra "Desert" heat pad (ie- it gets really hot- like it could burn your hand) not be too hot for this rubbermaid? Burn through it? Im using cypress mulch over newspaler as substrate. Do I need a dimmer or something? I also have a ceramic heat emitter 100W. Should I use it?

None of those are any good for a Ball Python.

Can't suggest which one to buy, as you never stated what size of Ball Python you are getting. All my BP's graduate in terms of sizes of their Rubbermaids. I use 4 different ones.

I don't think that a solid Rubbermaid that has 24-hrs of darkness is a good idea either.

ALWAYS use a dimmer or thermostat with snake heating.

No one can tell you to use the ceramic heat emitter because no one has accss to your setup. The REQUIRED temperature range for Ball Pythons is AVAILABLE everywhere on this site, so its really up to YOU to get your cage into that temperature range well before the snake comes. How you do that is up to YOU. Every setup for every room is different.

I use some the same as greenman, for the smaller ones (up to 500 grams or so) most I use are the rubbermaid snap cases, although they are getting difficult to find. They come in 3 sizes (Pic is of the medium one)

The ones I get are flatter, lower, and longer.

I buy mine at Walmart or steal Matt Kamekas when he's not looking...

My sister went grocery shopping at the Loblaws though and said that they have PERFECT snake rubbermaids there though. As for cost, I find Walmart or stealing them from Matt to be much cheaper than places like Ronas or Home Depot.

I use the rubbermaid #2221's (23X16X6). I find them the perfect size for my juvenile to adult ball pythons.

23x17x6, that is the size I currently have almost everyone over 500g in but I prefer the 34x16x6 ones Im just waiting on the rack for them.

I bought all of my tubs from Walmart. All of my hatchling, juvie, and small adult tubs. I had to clean out two different walmarts to get all that I needed however.

well I went to canadian tire at danforth and main street and they had every single rubbermaid/sterilite design imaginable.

I payed $10 for mine- and the most expensive thing was 24.99 for a five foot rubber maid that was 6" tall.

I was in heaven :)

what do you guys use to keep the low flat ones weighted down - model (1995) - I just bought one and wont put my BP in it withough a ton of weights I think he could easily get out even with the locking sides. So I just bought these thing people use to keep babies out of fridges VERY conveinant and cheap

I think was directed towards me not sure what a babycular is though but it's basicly like this http://www.totsafe.com.au/product.aspx?id=7 except you can get them at Wal-Mart for 1.98 exactly. Can't beat it wouldn't use it for anything really large though.
